EMPOWERING STRONGER COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS

Helping Solid Waste Facilities Be Better Neighbors

Despite modern engineering, malodors are an inevitable side effect of natural organic decomposition and off-gassing from landfills, commercial composting operations, and material recovery facilities.

As a result, solid waste facilities have to contend with odor complaints from neighbors, as well as compliance challenges that can hinder overall operations.

The first step in a solid waste odor mitigation plan is to verify proper operation of existing controls – examples include LFG gas collection, leachate collection and consistent use of daily cover. In the event these process controls aren’t enough, the Byers Scientific suite of odor and emissions mitigation equipment can be a second line of defense.

NEUTRALIZE ODORS BEFORE THEY BECOME A NUISANCE

Our Mitigation Technologies often provide a second barrier to neutralize odors before they reach neighboring communities.

We help the following types of solid waste facilities:

  • Landfills
  • Waste Transfer Stations
  • Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs)
  • Commercial Composting
  • Waste-to-Energy

Have a Unique Facility? Byers Scientific Offers Customized Odor & Emissions Identification, Mitigation Solutions and Compliance Support

Truly Intelligent Odor Control

Byers Scientific odor control systems offer complete system monitoring and data logging available 24/7 on the Byers Scientific Cloud-based SCADA platform for any operational or compliance reporting needs.

Intelligent SCADA Systems

Odor Neutralization Naturally

All Byers’ vapor-phase and atomization systems utilize a third party vetted and tested plant-based broad spectrum odor neutralizer formulated to mitigate the most common odors from solid waste and industrial-scale composting operations. Solid waste operators can have peace of mind knowing that Byers Scientific only uses odor neutralizers that have been proven safe and effective in its systems.

Mobile Vapor unit

Mobile Vapor-Phase Systems – HPII23M

This mobile version of our patented vapor-phase system is specifically designed to control odor from the moving landfill workface due to weather shifts and evolving emissions sources, all while reducing required manpower and water transportation.

With hyper-localized weather patterns influencing wind direction and the dispersal of foul odors, Byers Scientific’s Mobile Trailer-Mounted Vapor-Phase system can help landfills stay on top of problematic odors by targeting the areas that are most likely to impact neighbors.

Completely self-contained on a 7,500 lb. capacity trailer, the mobile system includes a medium-duty vapor-phase machine capable of treating up to 1,200 lineal feet of workface.

Mitigation vapor systems

Stationary Vapor-Phase Systems

For recurring odor sources with a large footprint, a stationary (permanent) Vapor-Phase system allows for a larger perimeter deployment of our industry-leading odor control. Using our patented uniform vapor-distribution technology, our systems deliver a consistent and controllable amount of odor neutralizing product via an engineered pipe distribution system.

Atomization Systems

This localized application of odor neutralizer is ideal for odor control around the perimeter of forced exhaust points in Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) and Organics Processing Facilities as an alternative to the Vapor-Phase systems.

In our atomization systems, odor neutralizer is injected into a high-pressure water source creating tiny ultra-fine (~3-18 microns) atomized (fog) droplets that stay airborne and move with the air stream to come in contact with and adsorb malodor molecules resulting in odor mitigation, not masking. The overall volume of ultra-fine neutralizer droplets creates significant surface area, increasing the system’s ability to adsorb malodors.

MT-Series of Molecular Filtration Systems

Byers Scientific also offers industrial odor control engineered for enclosed processing applications, such as MRFs, transfer stations and organics recycling/processing facilities. Molecular filtration (aka carbon scrubbing) is one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable ways to efficiently trap and sequester fugitive gasses and their associated odors by harnessing the power of activated carbon.

The Byers MT-Series of molecular filtration systems (ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 cfm) is the refinement of activated carbon technology married with state-of-the-art pre-filtration to prolong the life of the carbon and effectively trap odorous gasses.

Electrostatic precipitation

ASPRA® (Electrostatic Precipitation & Filtration)

In addition to controlling odors, Byers Scientific can help address Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and dust collection at MRFs, transfer stations and facility office spaces through the deployment of VFA Solutions’ patented ASPRA® air purification technology. ASPRA® offers low maintenance costs and seamless integration into existing HVAC systems (stand-alone Non-HVAC models available) without the necessity of traditional HEPA-style filters.

EVS and Byers

Environmental Intelligence + Industrial Odor Mitigation

Byers Scientific recently announced a strategic partnership with Envirosuite, a global leader in providing environmental intelligence for the monitoring of industrial and agricultural emissions.

Through the partnership, Byers Scientific customers are able to monitor, model and visualize emissions in real-time for making truly informed decisions about odor mitigation strategies and equipment.
