Dr. Alex Guenther, Ph.D., is one of our senior scientists. Dr. Guenther is a key contributor to the Byers Emissions Analysis division and Byers Mitigation Technologies division product research and development team. Dr. Guenther is an international leader with over 35 years of experience in atmospheric plant volatiles integrated research who has published more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific articles in leading international journals. Dr. Guenther has led more than 40 integrative field studies on six continents in tropical, temperate, and boreal ecosystems to provide observations to advance understanding of terpenes and other biogenic emissions and their role in air quality and climate.
Dr. Guenther was a Senior Scientist and Section Head at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and led the aerosol science program for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Environmental Molecular Science Laboratory. Dr. Guenther has also served as the chair of both the Global Emissions Inventory Activity and the Integrated Land-Ecosystem Process Study for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program. Dr. Guenther’s air quality and emissions models, such as his Model of Emissions of Gases and Aerosols from Nature (MEGAN), are widely utilized by industry, academia, and regulatory agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency.
