In 2017, Wake County installed a new type of odor-control system spanning the southern perimeter of the South Wake Landfill.
The system has been in place for just under a year and consists of a pipe eight inches in diameter and 3,500 feet long. The pipe disperses a lighter-than-air engineered vapor into the air that eliminates fugitive odors from the landfill on contact.
